WP2: Performance based approach
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The optimization of the ventilation system design requires a well-defined cost function and a good understanding of the constraints of the optimization problem. However, at the moment there is no scientific or practical consensus about the performance indicators for ventilation. This hampers development of new ventilation systems because manufacturers do not have a clear, objective and stable framework to position their new products and their unique selling points.
A performance framework needs to be established. This framework depends on sub-indicators tailored for the indoor environment (acoustics, resilience, occupant behavior, sleep), which eventually will be aggregated into one general cost function, taking into consideration additional constraints. Such a function should be easy to expand in order to accommodate future changes and new scientific discoveries.
